In all honesty, we may have made it up, but we’re defining it as the deliberate practice of managing digital engagement thoughtfully and intentionally in order to maintain mental clarity and balance.

Here are 6 steps to help you incorporate digital mindfulness:

1. Set Clear Intentions

Ask yourself:

• What do I want to achieve today?
• How do I want to show up online?
• What kind of energy do I want to project?

Having clear intentions helps you stay focused and ensures that your digital activities align with your goals.

2. Create a Mindful Routine

Bring a little zen into your digital day with these three things:

• Schedule Breaks: Plan regular breaks to disconnect and recharge. Step away from the screen, stretch, or take a walk.
• Do Mindful Check-Ins: Periodically check in with yourself. How are you feeling? Are you getting overwhelmed or staying focused?
• Have Focused Work Sessions: Use techniques like the Pomodoro Technique to stay productive. Work for a set period, then take a short break.

3. Declutter your Digital Space

A tidy digital environment can help you feel more organized and less stressed:

• Organize Your Workspace: Keep your digital workspace clean. Organize files, declutter your desktop, and streamline your tools.
